French Onion Soup

We love this recipe - it's easy and just as good as Marie Callendar's! I've started making it every Halloween!

1 1/2 lbs. red onions, peeled and halved
1/3 c. butter
3 cubes beef boullion
4 c. water
1/2 c. dry white wine
1/2 t. worcestershire
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
4 oz. swiss cheese, shredded
french bread

Slice the onions thin. Melt butter in frying pan and slowly cook onions in butter until browned. Combine cooked onions, boullion, water, wine, worcestershire, salt and pepper in soup pot and heat. To serve, place a thin slice of bread in bottom of each bowl. Pour in soup. Top with a thick layer of cheese. Place bowls under broiler until cheese melts. Serve immediately.
