Wasco Bass Club History

WASCO BASS CLUB

The Wasco Bass Club was first started in 1982 and consisted of approximately ten teams. No one had a decent bass boat; they only had boats with covered bows and they made live wells out of ice chests and pumped water into them. The first real bass boat came into the club in 1984. We are one of the oldest bass clubs in Kern County and the least known.

The club first started out as teams only and then went to individuals fishing against each other. At that time, the only money exchanged was for big fish and the rest went for trophies. Recently, the club returned to a team tournament concept where a team is awarded points based on tournament placement as well as individual points accumulated for overall standings. This allows an angler to fish with multiple partners and maintain their point standings. We currently have approximately 50 members and average 18 boats per tournament.

Club meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at the Vet’s Hall in Shafter, CA at 7:00 p.m. The club consists of members from all over Kern County and surrounding areas including Wasco, Shafter, Bakersfield, Taft, Tulare, Buttonwillow, Avenal, and Coalinga.

Most of our tournaments are held on Central Coast lakes such as Lopez, San Antonio, and Nacimiento; however, we also fish Success, Kaweah, Pine Flat, Cachuma, and the California Delta. Our annual fish-off is held in April. Any teams fishing at least six tournaments the previous year are eligible to compete in the fish-off.

Keep a tight line!!!
